Third podium of the season at final round at Indy

Updated: Oct 19, 2021

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, October 17, 2021 --- Bobby Krug claims a seventh-place finish and a third-place podium finish in the final round of the Skip Barber Formula Series for the 2021 season at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Varying weather conditions kept drivers in the field on their toes throughout the entire weekend. Thanks to Krug's prior experience around the road course at Indy, he hit the track in the dry practice sessions with outstanding speed placing himself third and second in the two practice sessions. Krug was unable to carry the same speed into Qualifying Day as he qualified seventh for Race 1 and fifth for Race 2 as he was over a second behind both of Nathan Byrd's pole lap times.

The slick tires were traded out for the rains as weather plagued Friday's Race 1. Krug used the wet weather to his advantage by minimizing his own mistakes and taking advantage of other driver's mistakes to work his way up through the field and onto the podium by the end of the race.

"Out of all the tracks on the schedule, this is the place I most wanted to get on the podium," Krug said. "The history of the place and the names and legends that have been made here is extremely special to me and it means a lot to stand up on those steps."

The track dried out for the final race day as Krug rolled from the fifth place starting position. Krug lacked pace that the Top 3 had and would battle it out with Chase Towse and Lindsay Brewer for the fifth place position for most of the race. Krug battled his way to the front of the fight but would lose it after Brewer completed a pass at the end of the Hulman Boulevard and Towse followed behind her with not enough time for Krug to make a rebuttal pass. Krug ultimately ended the race in seventh but celebrated it like a podium.

"That was an extremely fun battle," Krug said. "It was very exciting to have some solid, clean, side-by-side racing - what a great way to end the season! I'm extremely blessed that I got to race in the Skip Barber Race Series and I can't thank Skip Barber Racing School enough for this incredible opportunity."

After only completing 7 of the 12 races in the 2021 Skip Barber Race Series, Krug still managed to finish seventh in the final points standings.
