Krug sweeps the Skip Barber race weekend at Road America

Elkhart Lake, WISCONSIN, August 22, 2021 --- Bobby Krug wins both races and his first career pole position this past weekend in the fifth round of the Skip Barber Formula Race Series at Road America. His wins this weekend marks his second and third career victory in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series and pushes his podium total to 6 for the 2022 season.

Friday's practice sessions saw mixed conditions as the first practice was ran in wet to drying conditions and the second practice was ran with a completely dry track. Krug placed fourth in the first practice, his first time on-track at Road America, with a time of 2:47.855 in the wet. In the final practice, Krug picked up the pace in the dry with a time of 2:27.961, 2.5 seconds back from the top time.

In the Saturday qualifying session, Krug began his sweep of the weekend by taking his first ever pole position in the Skip Barber Formula Race Series with a fast lap of 2:25.245, almost seven-tenths faster than the field after setting up the perfect draft for nearly the entire lap.

At the start of Race 1, Krug was able to clear himself of Gade and the two drivers began to pull away from the field. On the way to his first win of the weekend, Krug dominated the race leading flag-to-flag after defending from a hard-charging Gade, who finished 2.5 seconds behind at the checkered flag.

The front row was inverted as Gade started in the pole position after running the fastest lap in Race 1 with a 2:26.721. With a fast lap of only a tenth back, Krug started alongside. At the drop of the green flag, Gade and Krug led the field into Turn 1. Soon after, the full course caution flew after an incident. Krug fell back to third on the restart after being passed by Nicky Glazier. At the front of the field, a mistake by Glazier pushed both him and Glade out wide, allowing Krug and Elvis Rankin to charge to the front with two laps to go. On the final lap, Rankin made a pass attempt on Krug in Canada Corner for the lead but could not clear, allowing Krug to hang on to the lead and take his second checkered flag of the weekend.

"You can't get a weekend much better than that," Krug said. "I'm glad we were able to bounce back in a big way after a rough round at New Jersey and I'm hoping we can carry this momentum into Sebring next month."

After five rounds of the Skip Barber Formula Race Series, Krug maintains third in the overall points standings only 1 point behind Alianell in second place and 14 points back from the points leader Rankin. The next Skip Barber Formula Race Series event will be September 23-25 at Sebring International Raceway in Florida.
